Getting Ready for the School Year

  • Each campus librarian is in charge of device inventory and allocation. All classroom teachers are provided with a laptop to facilitate instruction and learning. Depending on the campus and subject area, an optional iPad and/or document camera may be available for check-out.

    New Teachers:

    1. Please visit your campus librarian to check out your device(s).
    2. Login to your device with the help of your librarian.
      1. The first time you log in, it is best to be connected to the network with an ethernet cord.
      2. Use the credentials from your New Employee Accounts Information Sheet for “Logging in on a Windows computer”.
      3. Upon successful login, you should remove the ethernet cord and connect to BISD_Services Wifi.

If unable to log in to your device, contact the technology department (techdept@bonhamisd.org) for help.

    Returning Teachers:

    1. If you are a returning teacher, you may have checked out your device for the summer. Upon your return, the campus librarian may request to verify the Asset ID number of your device to keep it checked out to you for the upcoming school year.
    2. Login to your device using your most recently used credentials.
      1. Make sure you are connected to BISD_Services Wifi.
        • If you have been off the BISD network for an extended time (on your device away from campus) you may need to have your password reset.

If you are unable to log in to your device, contact the technology department (techdept@bonhamisd.org) for help.

    Paraprofessionals:

Depending on the campus, you may be allowed to have a laptop, Chromebook, or iPad checked out to you. Check with your campus administrator for your campus policy.

**Personal mobile devices may be used on campus but must be connected to our BISD_Staff WiFi. Personal devices are not able to connect to the BISD network for printing. For help connecting to Staff WiFi, contact your campus librarian or the technology department.

  • Having an email signature is an important step to identifying yourself to parents, students, and colleagues. This video tutorial will help walk you through uploading a profile picture and updating your email signature.

  • DO NOT MOVE PHONES TO ANOTHER ROOM.  Each phone is associated with a classroom/office for 911 purposes.

If you are in the same room as last year, everything remains the same.  If your phone does not have the correct name displayed, speak to your campus principal or email the technology department, techdept@bonhamisd.org, with your extension number (displayed on the phone screen), your campus, and your first and last name.

If you need to change your voicemail message, use these instructions.

Change voicemail for principals, teachers, and staff:

    1. Press the “6” and wait for instructions to set up a pin code or enter your extension number displayed on the phone.

      • If neither of those options let you access the voice mailbox, contact the tech department for help.

    2. Listen to your menu options and choose “Personal Options” by pressing the “4”.

    3. From the Personal Options menu, press “1” to “Manage Your Greetings” and follow the instructions to record your greetings for missed calls.

    4.  After recording your greetings, return to the Personal Options menu and press “2” to record your name.

    5. At this point, you should have recorded the required information and set up your voicemail.

    6. You can continue to listen to options for personal preferences or hang up to complete your setup.

Once you have your phone set up. Use the Aeonix app instructions to download the app. The app functions like your classroom phone. Using the app, you can receive and call out from your mobile device. It will show your classroom number to recipients.

Please Note: Students and schedules will not be ready for use until the District PEIMS Coordinator has closed the previous year’s data. This typically occurs during the second week of August, before school starts.

    1. Create an account for the Teacher Portal. As a teacher, you must create a new account every year.

    2. Your gradebook categories should already be configured. Each campus has designated assignment and assessment percentages for the grades you teach. If you notice that your gradebook is not correctly set up with the appropriate percentages, please contact your campus PEIMS Specialist before adding any assignments.

    3. If you are a new teacher, your assigned mentor teacher should assist you in setting up your gradebook for the new school year.

    4. Each campus determines the required number of assignments and assessments for the grading cycles per grade/subject taught. You must adhere to the grading guidelines for your campus. Please refer to the Grade Reporting section of the Student Handbook for your campus. If you have any questions regarding grades, please speak with your campus administrators.

  • Classroom Device Allocation and Usage Guidelines

Classroom devices are managed by the campus librarian. The number of devices assigned to your cart will align with your enrollment to maintain a 1:1 device-to-student ratio for classroom use. If you require a device for a new student, need to replace a damaged device, or need additional charging cables, please contact your librarian.

    Device Guidelines by Grade Level

    Grades K-1:

Each homeroom class is provided with an iPad cart for secure storage and charging. Each iPad should be assigned to a single student and used exclusively by that student. This ensures seamless logins and allows for accurate assessment of any damages.

    Grades 2-12:

Chromebooks are distributed through teacher-assigned carts on each campus. Teachers should assign each device to a specific student.

    • If the devices are used by a single group of students, the librarian will assign each asset number to a specific student.
    • If the devices remain in the classroom and are shared across multiple classes, each device should be numbered, and each student should be assigned a corresponding number in their class (by the teacher). This minimizes the number of users per device and helps track responsibility for any damages.

For all devices, please refer to the Student Handbook Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for guidelines on proper use and responsibilities.
