You Are ALL Rock Stars!!
What a 2020 this has been so far.....we had 29 days in February (thanks to Leap Year), 257 days in March and I feel like April is working its way to 3012 days!! So as we progress through the #StaySafe-StayHome movement and if you are like me, you are going just a little stir crazy added with the need to return to normal - and that is being back at school with our students and our staff friends.
Through it all, I must commend you again for the work you are doing! We are keeping BISD running successfully - educating students, providing needed services and meals, delivering meals when needed, encouraging one another, paying the bills and people, cleaning and making improvements to our facilities, mowing the grass, providing internet, technology devices and technology support and planning for next year!
If you are growing weary, take a step back and think of one thing you can be thankful for. Also, give yourself some grace for the things that you aren't doing as well as you might like to - I must admit that I am not the best teacher for my 8th grader (those people work at L.H. Rather!) .....then take a deep breath and keep putting one foot in front of the other promising to do your best tomorrow. Keep up the hard work!!
In closing, this experience is definitely going in my "All the Things I Wasn't Prepared for in My First Year as Superintendent" book!!

SCHOOL LIBRARIAN AND LIBRARY AIDE APPRECIATION DAY
Without April Peterson, Brandy Nichols, Suzanne Bennett, Marcia Hunter and Daisha Sorrells our school libraries would be just another room!! But thankfully they are so much more - study spaces, a learning resource or an escape to a faraway world!
I appreciate ALL the things you do for the staff and students at Bonham ISD in order that they are well-rounded students and avid readers.

BISD Still Making Improvements During COVID-19
The new gate at the Ag Barn has been completed! This gate is set further back off Silo Road, providing increased safety when students and families are pulling over to open the gate.
The gate was actually constructed by students in the classes of 2018 and 2019 – their skills are amazing. I couldn't be more proud of the entrance to this facility.
Thank you Jacob Brown!!

Census 2020
The good news is the Census 2020 participation rate in Texas jumped over 10% last week to 41.1%. The bad news is most of the rest of the states increased their census participation too, and Texas sits in the 41st position among the states and territories.
What you may not know is that rural areas of Texas are traditionally under counted. In fact, to this point of the 2020 Census Texas’s rural counties are heavily under counted.
There are three ways to be counted in this census: (1) mailed paper questionnaires; (2) online at my2020census.gov, and (3) by telephone – for English language the number is 844-330-2020, for Spanish it is 844-468-2020, and TDD is 844-467-2020. A word of warning: wait times for telephone response is extremely slow. Some report waits of up to forty five minutes!
I completed the 2020 Census for my household last week online and it took less than 5 minutes. I know you are busy people. However, your help with the census is “above the call of duty”, and it is appreciated!! Plus it could help our county receive funding.

Let's Be Like GEESE Con't
In LESSONS FROM GEESE Dr. Robert McNeish shares lessons to be learned from geese, and they are particularly salient for educators! For instance, geese flying in a “V” formation can add 71% more to their flying range than if they flew separately. Why? Because the flapping of the wings of the birds in the formation creates uplift for the birds that follow.
Lesson 1 for educators: With a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals.
Now, occasionally a goose will drop out of formation, and when it does, it feels immediately the drag and resistance of flying alone. Unless it is injured, the bird quickly returns to the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.
