Bonham Education Foundation Grant Winners!

Bonham ISD is proud and honored to have four classroom teachers awarded Bonham Education Foundation Grants for 2021. Our winners are IW Evans teachers, Pat Goodwin and Sharon Roberts, and LH Rather Teachers, Cherie Frazier, and Mattie Winkels.

The grant is available to any Bonham ISD employee and is awarded to fund innovative academic projects and programs. It is the desire of the Foundation to award grants of up to $1000 for programs aimed at enhancing the academic experience of Bonham students through the whole range of primary, elementary, and secondary education.

Pat Goodwin says that the 4th-6th grade Gifted & Talented students will have the opportunity to learn how to build and program basic robots with the Mbots Robot kits from Makeblock. Students will learn about a variety of robotic machinery and electronic parts, and enhance their logical thinking and design skills. She hopes the experiences provided through this grant award will encourage our students to pursue careers in STEM.

Sharon Roberts is excited to begin purchasing books for her Mobile Library. The books purchased will meet the needs of diverse students in our district and help build reading skills throughout the school year.

Cherie Frazier is excited to use the funds received to continue to serve students throughout the Fannin County Special Education Cooperative’s Life Skills program with self-help and pre-vocational training. The Pillow and Blanket project is a big focus for the program. The project gives students an opportunity to learn basic sewing skills, hand stitching, safety, and the use of a sewing machine. Each student will learn to make a pillow and blanket and will be able to take them home to enjoy.

Mattie Winkels also works with students throughout Fannin County in the Life Skills program. Her grant will provide students with hands-on learning experiences using materials that focus on meaningful, contemporary life skills while promoting independence, socialization, and positive behavior skills.

Bonham ISD thanks the Bonham Education Foundation for their support for our students, staff, and district. We are proud to enrich our academics and provide our students with tools to succeed through the use of these funds.
